From the mysterious ghost of a samurai to the real life inspiration for the film The Conjuring 2, we count the 10 creepiest paranormal photos ever taken.

10. Ghostly Figure in The Sunlight

This photo, taken by Edward Nash from Edinburgh, Scotland appears to show a ghostly apparition floating in mid air. He confirmed that there was no one smoking in the room at the time the photo was taken. When asked to describe the image, Nash’s only explanation was that the figure might be dust reflecting from the very bright sunlight. However, the shape in the photo appears to look very much like a human dressed in some sort of robe or cloak. What do you think? Is it just dust reflecting the light or has the photographer captured something from the other side?

9. A Creepy Warning

There is very little information available about this photo but it appears to have been taken sometime in the early 1900’s. It shows a nun standing outside the entrance to an old estate and there is clearly something reaching out trying to grab her by the forearms. Could the ghostly figure be attempting to push her over? Is it trying to warn her? Or could it be pleading for help from the visiting nun?

8. Samurai Ghost

On July 6th, 2014, Martin Springall took a series of photos of his 4 year old daughter on a beach in Zushi, Japan. Springall, who was living in Tokyo at the time claims that no one else was around when he took the photographs and that he didn’t notice anything strange until he looked at the pictures later that night. In one of the images there appears to be a person in black boots standing directly behind his daughter.

When asked about what he had captured, Springall recalled, “I took a few pictures, and when I was looking through them at night, I noticed what appeared to be a pair of boots behind her in one of the photos,” he said. “I took several of her in the same spot, but only one had the boots.” My daughter is really shy, and she wouldn’t have taken a picture if there was someone standing behind her, which I would have definitely noticed.”

A friend of Springall uploaded the image to Reddit where viewers came up with several theories. Amongst the most unsettling is the idea that the black boots might belong to the ghost of a long deceased samurai as the beach where the young girl is standing is close to a well known samurai graveyard.

Others speculated that the boots could be those of a World War II sailor. Whatever the explanation is, it sure makes for a creepy photo.

7. Haunted Town Hall

In February 2017, a council official in the Spanish town of Vegas del Genil, captured this eerie image of what appears to be a young girl in the hallway of the local town hall.

The official, who was working late at the town hall claimed that he suddenly felt the air in his office become very cold. When he got up to go to the bathroom, he heard a rustling sound coming from the hallway. Fearing that thieves were in the building, he decided to use his phone to take a photo of the hallway where the sound was coming from. After a quick glance at the picture the official was satisfied that no one was there.

However, when he later reviewed the picture he noticed what appeared to be a young girl peering back at him. After sharing the image with his colleagues, several came forward with similar stories of strange occurrences they had experienced while working in the building.

The mayor of the town was urged to hire a priest or ghost hunters to investigate the building but remained sceptical of the claims saying “How can I justify hiring a medium when I have residents without electricity?”

6. Reaching Out From The Afterlife

This is very little information available about this this image but that doesn’t make it any less creepy. While it is possible it is a fake, it doesn’t appear to be a normal photoshop job. It shows a young girl holding a baby in her arms while two ghostly arms reach out as if they are about to grab the girl by the legs. Has the photographer captured a ghost on film? What do you think? 5. Fort Worth Museum Hauntings

In 2015, Kevin Brown snapped a series of photos on his iPad while he was at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History in Texas. Brown, who was there with his niece and two nephews didn’t see anything strange about the images at the time they were taken. It wasn’t until later that day that his niece noticed something very unsettling in one of the photos.

The photo appears to show a withered old hag dressed in dirty rags floating above the floor with outstretched hands.

“That is the first time in my life I’ve actually had the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It freaked me out. It freaked (my niece) out,” Brown said in a newspaper report.

‘I’m positive I would have noticed something like that and it was strange.’ Brown added, It wasn’t noticed until we looked at the pictures.’

The museum has a history of strange occurrences particularly when it played host to a Titanic exhibition. Security guards have reported unusual shadows showing up on cameras and objects mysteriously moving around by themselves.

4. Ghost of Alcatraz

This photo of a young child was allegedly taken at the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in San Francisco, California. The image shows what appears to be the face of a ghostly apparition floating above the child with a very strange white streak down the centre of the photo. The sign in the background is marked ‘Operating Room’ and there appears to be a table directly behind the child. Could this be the spirit of someone who passed away during surgery in this very room? Or is it some sort of camera glitch? What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.

3. Ghost of an Unknown Boy

This photo, taken on a mobile phone shows a group of girls posing for a picture in the middle of the lounge room. The young girl seen crying in the bottom right corner of the image refused to take part in the picture because she said ‘The little boy was scaring her!’ It wasn’t until later, when her mother was reviewing the photo that she realised what the little girl was talking about.

Take a look between the legs of the girls second and third from the left. You can clearly see the face of a young boy peering out from behind the group. If it was simply a shadow or optical illusion why did the little girl get so scared? Was she the only one who could see the ghostly boy? What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below!

2. An Eerie Visitor

This photo, taken by the father of the young girl playing in their living room clearly shows some sort of ghostly, human-like figure. It appears to be crawling across the carpet with one hand raised to its mouth. What makes this image extra creepy is the fact that it looks as though the little girl may actually be able to see the apparition. Could this be the spirit of a deceased family member or is it some sort of camera glitch or light trick? What do you think is going on in this photo?

1. The Enfield House Haunting

This photo taken in 1977 is of young girl named Janet Hodgson. You may not know her by name but her family’s real life experiences formed the basis for the supernatural horror film, The Conjuring 2.

Taken while Janet and her family were living in a council house in Enfield, North London, this photo supposedly shows one of the numerous times she was lifted from her bed and thrown across the room by supernatural forces.

The Hodgson family claim to have witnessed many strange things while living at the house including furniture levitating and moving around the room as well as lego bricks and marbles flying through the air. On one occasion, Janet’s mother Peggy called the police after hearing a strange knocking sound coming from the walls and floor. The police officer reported witnessing a chair rise up and move across the floor on its own, in full view of everyone.

A member of the Society for Psychical Research, Maurice Grosse was called to investigate the haunting. During his time at the house, he claimed to have witnessed sofas floating and tipping over as well as tables and chests of drawers spinning on the spot.

One one occasion, Grosse and a neighbour heard Janet’s sister Rose crying out ‘I can’t move! It’s holding my leg!’ They found her at the top of the staircase, standing on one leg with the other outstretched behind her. Both Grosse and the neighbour grabbed Rose by the wrists and pulled as hard as they could but she could not be moved.

The family eventually moved from the house but to this day, Janet refuses to talk about the haunting in front of her own children.

Well that was the 10 creepiest paranormal photos ever taken. Who else needs a pair of fresh trousers? I know I do!
